RJ

As many of you know, the second annual Red Bull Straight Rhythm event was held this past weekend in Pomona, CA. During the first round of the lites racing, Geico Honda teammates Jordan Smith and Rj Hampshire were in the midst of a tight race when Rj’s front wheel missed a whoop and he went over the bars, knocking him unconscious for several minutes. Thanks to a post on twitter from Rj yesterday we know he is alright and in good spirits:

“@Hampshire21: I had a scary crash yesterday. Thankful to be in the shape im In. Just some bleeding in the brain and others small Thanks for the support ”

Asside from being knocked unconscious, scans revealed he has two pin point bleeds in his brain. There is no word on how long he is expected to be out but we certainly hope to see him line up for the first race of the supercross series. Being that he is a lites rider, he may opt to race the east coast series and get a few extra weeks of recovery and practice, so don’t be surprised if Rj is a championship contender alongside Jeremy Martin during the 250sx East coast Regional series.

Check back tomorrow for a full recap of Saturdays race. To see Rj’s crash, click the link below:

The plan going into this weekend was to fill the last two open spots in the 250cc class for the Red Bull Straight Rythym race coming up Oct 10th. However, mother nature had other plans. While timed qualifying went smoothly, showers hit the area immediately following qualifying, making it too dangerous to race the technical half mile strip.

Organizers decided that instead of racing to find the top two riders to send to the event, the top 6 qualifiers would advance. While this brings the 250cc class up to 14 riders, rather than the original 10, the 4 slowest riders will be eliminated in timed practice on the day of the event. The 6 riders advancing from the qualifier at Pala are : Michael Leib, Axell Hodges, Broc Shoemaker, Brandon Scharer, Zac Commans, and Dare Demartille.

James Stewart and Malcolm Stewart compete during Red Bull Straight Rhythm in Pomona, CA, USA on 4 October 2014.

The second annual Red Bull Straight Rythym race is shaping up to be even more exciting that last years innagural event. With Big hitters like Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen competing against the reigning champ, James Stewart, will most definately provide some very entertaining racing.

Amateur athletes are the foundation of our sport. As one travels through the amateur ranks, they are able to hone their skills, and showcase their talent. An amateur can gain national recognition or they can fall from the spotlight, in a single race.u

At the VurbMoto Silver Dollar Classic last month, a young gun named Ramyller Alves #222 grabbed the attention of the motocross community with an insane performance in the 250b class. After a mediocre start, he battled his way through the pack and won the race with ease. Perhaps more impressive than that, were the slick scrubs the number 222 was throwing throughout the race. Scrubbing is when a rider turns the bike on t he face of a jump while leaning it over, it allows the bike to stay lower while keeping speed as you go over the jump, allowing you to get the power back to the ground more quickly. This technique is used very often by Pros and the nations top amateurs, but never have we seen scrubs like this kids before. Below you can see of video of two jaw dropping scrubs, as well as an on-board helmet cam of his race:

What are Chad Reed and Justin Bogle’s plans for 2016? http://fall15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/10/01/what-are-chad-reed-and-justin-bogles-plans-for-2016/ Thu, 01 Oct 2015 17:47:34 +0000 http://blogs.lt.vt.edu/gregdigalbo/?p=4334 Read more →

After he announced the end of TwoTwo Motorsports early this summer, many of us immediately began wondering who he woukld be racing for in 2016. though he hasn’t been takingpart in any of the recent pro races, he has stayed active on social media and made it clear that he will be taking part in 2016 Monster Energy Supercross. in recent weeks he revealed that he has been riding and practicing on a 2016 Yamaha yz450f, but hasn’tmentioned anything about the teamhe will be racing for, other than Discount Tire and Monster Energy will remain personal title sponsors.

Likewise, Justin Bogle’s contract with Geico Honda ended this year, and missing most of the Motocross series due to an injury at Round 1, Honda elected not to extend his contract. Though he has still been practicing on his Geico Honda crf450r, he has yet to make an announcement about who he will race for in his rookie season in the 450 class.

While most of us are expecting Reed to make his debut at the Monster Energy cup on Oct. 16, on a Yamaha bike, noone knows what rig he will be pitting out of. Steve Matthes, host of PulpMX radio show, has given listers reason to believe Yamaha will revive their factory 450 team with Monster Energy as the title sponsor and Chad Reed AND Justin Bogle to contend the 2016 season aboard the new yz450f. Matthes also mentioned that Lars Lindstrom, Chad’s longtime mechanic would be joining him on this team.

While neither of the riders nor anyone at yamaha has confirmed anything yet, it is likely there will be a new  team in the pits this year. With both Reed and Bogle both winning races last year and being former series champions, this has a chance to be a Powerhouse team right off the bat. With JGR Yamaha’s Justin Barcia being blazing fast over the past few months, Yamaha is making a strong effort to put blue bikes on the top step of the podium this year.

The 22 looks good back on a blue bike.
