Above is a video of one of the most iconic plays in college football history. Referred to as “The Band is on the Field.” or simply “The Play,” it is from the Cal-Stanford game in 1982. Stanford took the lead with seven seconds left on the play-clock, but on the subsequent kickoff, Cal took the ball, lateraled the ball five times and scored to win the game. During the play, Stanford’s band inexplicably ran onto the field (perhaps thinking they had won the game) and when Kevin Moen of Cal ran into the end zone, he ran over trombonist Gary Tyrrell in the infamous ending to the famous play.
